Adenium 'Calypso'

Adenium 'Calypso' is a selection of Adenium obesum that was discovered in a batch of seedlings from a Florida nursery.  It is now being propagated by cuttings, so all plants marked 'Calypso' are one clone.  It is characterized by a strong, upright growing habit and many deeply colored flowers.  Calypso has a long flowering season, and if green-housed for the winter will flower for virtually 9 months a year.

For best growing results, all adeniums like warm to hot summers and plenty of water at that time.  This would be a minimum of 85° F daytime temperatures with warm nights.  When actively growing, adeniums should be lightly fertilized throughout the growing season for maximum growth.  A light dilution of any house plant fertilizer will work.  Cactus mix should be used for potting.

Adeniums are subject to freezing and should be protected from temperatures below 32°.  As importantly, these plants should be kept dry in winter, especially below 50° or so.  At that time, smaller plants (6 inch pots or less) should be watered no more than once every two weeks and larger ones no more than once a month.  Greenhouse conditions will naturally warrant more frequent waterings.
